Celebrating over 75 years, J.S. McCarthy is one of New England's most respected sheetfed printers and a leader in state-of-the-art folding carton manufacturing.
Our heart lies in Augusta, Maine, within our 150,000 square foot manufacturing facility, where we focus on high-quality commercial printing and folding carton packaging for various industries including food, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.
We continually invest in leading edge technology, offering unmatched quality and efficiency. In 2023 alone, we invested over $6 million in new equipment.
Operating with 100% certified wind energy and engaging in practices like in-house sheeting, J.S. McCarthy proudly treads lightly on the planet. Our commitment to recycling saw us repurpose over 1,600 tons of paper and cardboard in 2023.
Since 2019, we have been 100% employee-owned, believing that when our team flourishes, so does our community.

We’re continually investing in cutting-edge technology that can help us reduce our environmental footprint. In the last 7 years we’ve invested over $20 million in our facilities, purchasing newer, more efficient equipment that reduces waste while creating the highest quality products, every time.

Contrary to the belief that less printing saves forests, the industry actually promotes tree planting, exceeding the number harvested annually. It sustains forests through income-generating activities like lumber and paper production, ensuring land remains forested. With much of our paper coming from certified forests, we prioritize responsible resource management. Embracing circularity, our products are designed for reuse and recyclability, with ongoing innovations aimed at enhancing sustainability and minimizing waste.
Since 2007, J.S. McCarthy has led the way in green energy, running 100% on wind power and earning recognition as a 100% Green Power User by the EPA. Our commitment to sustainability helped save over 4.35 million pounds of CO2 in 2022 and nearly 18 million pounds since 2019, significantly reducing our carbon footprint.
At J.S. McCarthy Packaging + Print, community outreach is key. We pride ourselves on diverse support—financial, in-kind donations, and volunteerism—spanning schools, hospitals, food banks, and more. Our local United Way of Kennebec Valley focuses on health, education, and financial stability of every person in our community. Notably, it leads in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), implementing a comprehensive DEI action plan across partner programs and providing resources for broader community education. Additionally, under the Impact2032 initiative, it collaborates with over 80 local leaders, including those from JSM, to set ten-year goals in key community development areas.
